MUCKY DUCK RESTAURANT CELEBRATES 35 YEARS

skirts and bell bottoms and most men wore beards or mustaches, and the top song on the radio was Silly Love Songs by Paul McCartney and Wings. January 29, 1976 was the same year a local eating establishment was founded as a tropical take on an olde English Pub theme, the Mucky Duck Restaurant on Captiva Island. The restaurant, which has become famous for its sunset views, delicious food and a tradition of vacationers and islanders is celebrating 35 years of business with a celebration on Jan. 30, 1 p.m. to dusk, at 11546 Andy Rosse Lane, Captiva Island. Parking will be available at the restaurant and our parking lot attendants will have suggestions to other locations during the day. Carpooling could be a great idea!

The year was 1976, the US was celebrating its bicentennial, the Concorde made its first commercial flight, a little known governor from Georgia Jimmy Carter became president. The fashion featured mini 35 th Anniversary Mucky Duck merchandise will be available for purchase. A portion of the events proceeds will benefit The Heights Foundation, a grassroots organization that works to break the cycle of poverty in the Harlem Heights neighborhood, located just off of the islands in the Iona McGregor area.
Starting at 1:00 pm. Nashville musicians and Grammy winner Brent Moyer will perform with Joe Sun, quoted by Johnny Cash as the best new singer to come into Nashville. Great Shelling on Sanibel Island !

The past month has been a great time to collect the many varieties of shells that wash up on Sanibel Island.  Sanibel is known as one of the top 10 best shelling locations in the world.  The reason there are so many shells lining the beaches is the shape of the island as well as the currents that surround it.  Sanibel and Captiva island jut out from the coast of Fort Myers beach in a east west position.  Most barrier islands hug the coast in a north south position.  Because of Sanibels unique position it becomes a basket for shells.

While the weather during the day for the past month has been a sunny mid 70's at night the temperature has dropped to the 50's-60's.  We even had a couple nights in the 40's.  This cold night weather causes the shells to lose grip of the bottom of the sea floor.  Soon they are found washed up on the sandy white beaches like little treasures just waiting to be found.

Below is a picture of  the beautiful shells we have found recently.

Christmas Wishes From Sanibel & Captiva Islands!

This is my wish for you: peace of mind, prosperity through the year, happiness that multiplies, health for you and yours, fun around every corner, energy to chase your dreams, joy to fill your holidays!

-- D.M. Dellinger

Being from "Up North" I often get the comment from my friends and family "I bet it just doesn't feel like Christmas without the cold and snow" .

When you are sitting on sandy white beaches with your loved ones, looking out over a crystal blue ocean surrounded by tropical plants and majestic palm trees you are astounded by the beauty of this island.  Suddenly you feel calm, more at peace.  Its easy to feel appreciation of your friends, family and neighbors.  Gratitude for all that you have.  A wish of peace and happiness for all.  Isn't this what Christmas is about?

So no I never have a problem feeling like its Christmas just because of the sunny weather.  If anything living here has taught me to appreciate Christmas even more and if I feel homesick for the Ohio snow....I can always build a snowman out of the powdery white sand.

Don't wait to achieve your dream of living on a beautiful island.  There are great deals on Sanibel & Captiva Real Estate now.  Please feel free to give us a call with any of your real estate questions.

A Trip to Cayo Costa is A Must !

With nine miles of beautiful beaches and acres of pine forests, oak-palm hammocks and mangrove swamps, this barrier island park is a Gulf Coast paradise. Cayo Costa is accessible only by private boat or ferry. Visitors may see manatees and pods of dolphins in the waters around the 2,426 acre park, as well as a spectacular assortment of birds. On the island, visitors can swim or snorkel in the surf, enjoy the sun and picnic in the shade.

Book a trip through Captiva Cruises and set off for a peaceful boat ride through Pine Island Sound.  On most trips you will see dolpins, stingrays, brown and white pelicans, an array of seagulls and an occasional sea turtle.

The beaches are pristine, private and full of shells. Be sure to pack a lunch, drinks and anything else you may need as there are no facilities on the island. It is a trip you must expierience while visiting Sanibel or Captiva.
